Joscelin Verreuil of the Kushiel Legacy Trilogy

I knew I would get him finished eventually; this is one of two paintings of Joscelin sitting on my harddrive.  Finally got this one to the point I felt it could be finished.  I focus really hard on modelling his face the way I saw him in my head; hence the straight on, deadpan look.  It was all about capturing that look that I had for him.  Happily, I think I succeeded.  I’m pretty happy with this one right now <3

I invented a wardrobe piece of his that was not in the books; the small pendant he’s wearing has been nicknamed Cassiel’s Promise, something the Cassiline Brotherhood gives out to their Priests upon their leaving the monastery.  Or something like that >_>

Since Blackbird magically appeared in my head one day, it’s been developing and growing since.  It’s pretty basic; boy falls into Faerie, boy meets Faerie, boy saves the world.  Like most of the stories, the plotline could use some work.  But the characters are interesting at least!  I plan on drawing a lot more from it soon; I have a painting in process of Igea somewhere, and I’ve been meaning to illustrated Dusk and the other High Fae for ages.  Soon, my pretties, sooooon <3

Drawn a few weeks ago; well, finished anyway.  This has been sitting on my harddrive for some time.  Never had the endurance to finish it until the boy that inspired this character broke my heart.  Ah well, at least art has come of it!  Sad to say, this will probably be the last of Aura for a while.  Not sure if Ether Hallows will ever happen, now, but I am sure at the least it will be taken apart and merged with other stories.

Trying to get myself to work on things in art that need work;  i.e, lighting.  Lighting has been something I have embarassingly ingnored for the past few years.  I felt it was something that could hold off until I had a better grip on color theory, but now I am starting to see the two are entirely too wound together to ignore one for the other.  So, I am forcing myself to sit down and paint something with (mostly) correct lighting every day for, well, until I don’t.  Lots of referencing from fashion editorials ahead, I am sure.

I have a huge fascination with tribal culture.  This is a little less wild than I would like it; what I see in my head is more full animal pelt headress, warpaint and very little clothing, but I have a style of art to stick to and that’s pretty women in flowing skirts and lots of hair.  Haha!  Actually, this is more of just what came out when I tried to get in touch with that more tribal side of me.  Eventually it will free up more.  Until then, you get Shieldmaiden Z, defender of virgins and puppies.

Cypher and Aura, from my comic Ether Hallows.  I don’t draw them enough; when I do, it is always very rewarding.  I have been tentatively working on the comic again, but it is more to warm up back into comicking, rather than to march forward on EH again.  Someday I will; I am not sure when, but I have a feeling it won’t be too far off.  The past year has been rough for Ether Hallows, but eventually my muse will come back.

Persephone and Hades, for my darling Karina.  Not much to say about this one other than that I am really happy it is done.  It was sitting unfinished on my harddive for a long time!

Oh Melisande.   Melisande, Melisande!  You undo me.  I hope you will forgive my feeble attempt at painting your beauty.  At least I did a pretty good job on clothing you!  Favrielle would be proud, I think.
